There is nothing better on a clear late summer or early fall night in the backyard than your very own firepit.
But what to choose? A gas fire pit or a wood burning fire pit? While each has their own advantages (and disadvantages), we prefer the propane fueled gas firepits.
Why? Ease of use and a constant flame.
You are not worrying about chopping or stocking firewood; and you are not wearing the ash, soot, and other fire residue created from a wood burning firepit when you go to clean your firepit out.
There are a multitude of gas firepits available to you online; and with prices raging from a low of $200 to a high of $1500, making your decision can become an arduous task with information overload.
We have tested several different models of propane fired outdoor firepits with various prices, and we wanted to focus on three main areas…
When looking for a gas fire pit for your deck or patio, why not think about a fire pit that is also an attractive piece of outdoor patio furniture as well.
Some of these newer designs for gas firepits are resulting in a remarkable and versatile fire pit that can function in a couple of different ways.
Under review is the Outdoor Greatroom Naples All Weather Wicker Table & Gas Fire Pit. Every Outdoor Greatroom Naples Fire Pit includes…
An aluminum frame that is corrosion resistant and very strong
A wicker exterior design covered with a weather resistant clear high gloss lacquer
A classic black glass top that converts this into a fully functional table when not in use
A crystal fire propane fueled burner
An optional steel beverage bowl to convert this wicker table into a beverage cooler (purchased separately)
Comes with a natural gas conversion kit
We found our Outdoor Greatroom Naples Wicker Table & Gas Fire Pit online. It shipped quickly, and arrived in five days; and the shipping was included in the purchase price.
Outdoor Greatroom Naples All-Weather Wicker Table and Gas Fire Pit – Attractive & Functional
Assembly of this gas fire pit and wicker table was relatively easy (despite the fact that there were absolutely no directions included); and assembly was complete in about an hour with only one small backtrack.
Once assembled, this is a really strong, stable, and good looking gas fire pit that blends in perfectly with our exiting patio furniture.
It has a strong undying heavy aluminum frame, and the wicker panels for this model use a really tight weave for the wicker to give it extra strength and stability. The high gloss transparent lacquer coating give this a nice shine, and clean up is nothing more than simply wiping it down.
And the combination of features makes this a very versatile, really handy gas fire pit that transforms into a great outdoor cocktail table.
The fire pit is easy to use, with the crystal fire burner that sparks up at the touch of the push button electronic ignition. The propane tank stores inside the bottom of the table, and is easily accessible through the side panel.
Once lit, the fire floats over the top of the tempered tumbled glass rather than over any kind of lava rock or ceramic logs that you find in the more traditional gas fire pit.
It has an adjustable setting on the fuel flow so you can dial in the temperature you want, and it really throws off the heat so you can sit back and enjoy your gas fire for hours.
When not in use, there is an included black tempered glass top which slides over the fire bowl, transforming the Outdoor Greatroom Naples All-Weather Fire Pit in to a fully functional and very attractive wicker table.
And it also comes with an optional beverage bowl that you can insert into the top of the table to fill with ice as a beverage cooler as well.
Outdoor Greatroom Naples All-Weather Wicker Table and Gas Fire Pit – The Negatives
There is not a lot we have discovered that is a downside with this Outdoor Greatroom Naples Gas Fire Pit.
The major thing we didn’t like was the complete lack of assembly instructions. Granted, this is not the space shuttle, and it is not that difficult for anyone remotely handy with tools. But a complete lack of assembly instructions was a surprise.
And there was no included cover for this fire pit as well. With the resin covered wicker, it is easy enough to clean; but the black glass table top will show every dried raindrop. And a simple plastic or vinyl cover would have been easy and inexpensive to include with this fire pit.
But for ease of use, true versatility, and a great looking piece of outdoor furniture that works surprisingly well as a fire pit, the Outdoor Greatroom Naples All-Weather Wicker Table and Gas Fire Pit is an exceptional value for the money spent.
And its multiple uses as an additional wicker table and beverage cooler is an added bonus that makes this great looking fire pit a true patio workhorse.
As summer turns into fall, the nights begin to get chilly and days shorter and shorter. But that doesn’t mean you still cannot enjoy those clear, starlit nights on the back patio; you just need a way to keep it comfortable.
A fire pit is the answer; and not the old wood fire pits with smoke blowing into your face and sparks hitting your sweater.
With the advent of these new gas fire pits, there are some really unique and stunning designs that not only keep your patio or deck warm and comfortable; but they also make a very attractive addition to any backyard.
For a contemporary look that is as functional as it is attractive, you need to check out the stylish design of the Urban Fire Outdoor Stainless Steel Fire Pit.
Each Urban Outdoor Stainless Fire Pit comes with…
A sleek and strong stainless steel design
A powerful 60,000 BTU thermal output
Rapid fire electronic ignition
Black reflective fire glass
Easy on/off switch and propane regulator
A 12 foot propane connector hose
A stainless steel cover for the fire bowl
A one year factory warranty
This outdoor gas fire pit ships in 2 boxes, and it arrived in six days. Assembly was a snap, since this Urban Fire Outdoor Fire Pit came already assembled; you merely had to insert the 60 pounds of fire glass into the fire bowl, connect the fire pit to the propane tank, and start it up.
Urban Fire Outdoor Stainless Steel Gas Fire Pit – Sleek Design That Really Works
This Urban Fire gas fire pit has a sleek, low slung design that adds a touch of elegance to any backyard.
It is 36 inches by 36 inches square; and a mere 16 inches high. It is a strong and stable unit, and really throws off a generous amount of heat. With a 60,000 BTU stainless steel fire ring and an easy on/off propane regulator, it is extremely easy to use and control.
And with push button electronic ignition, the Urban Fire Outdoor Stainless Steel Gas Fire Pit sparks up on the first try. It is designed to run off of propane, but comes with the natural gas adapter that is easy to configure if you choose to use natural gas for this fire pit.
This firepit provides a warm and relaxing atmosphere on your patio. It has a very shallow firebowl centered on the top of the table, which if filled with black reflective fire glass that makes the flames seem to float over the top of the fire pit.
The black fire glass and stainless steel surface of the table reflects and refracts the flames around your backyard, and it is hard to tear your eyes away from it. And if you want to create a unique look to your fire glass, add designs with the stainless steel hand rake that is comes included with your fire pit.
One other nice feature is the stainless steel cover that comes with the fire pit that fits securely over the top of the fire bowl when not in use; so this fire pit also functions as a sleek and attractive coffee or cocktail table as well.
The Urban Fire Outdoor Stainless Steel Gas Fire Pit – An Urban Flare in Your Own Backyard
This feature rich outdoor gas fire pit is almost perfect; almost.
At 140 pounds, it is a bear to move around the patio; make sure that you have a friend handy to help.
And the included PVC cover that protects this fire pit from the elements is very flimsy and cheap; and it gets kind of “brittle” in cold weather.
But those are very minor complaints. This is a superior outdoor gas fire pit that is as functional as it is attractive.
If you are looking for an efficient, easy to use gas fire pit with a unique design that could quickly become a focal point for both friends and family alike, then the Urban Fire Outdoor Stainless Steel Gas Fire Pit needs to be given a serious look.
NOTE: We cannot, in good faith, recommend this fire table for purchase. Instead, we recommend theBlue Rhino GAD860SPas a better substitute. If you need more details of our less-than-pleasant experience, our full review is recorded below.
Relaxing in the comfort of your own backyard around a roaring fire is a great way to enjoy a starlit summer night. Rather than mess with a wood burning fire table, you can take advantage of an easy to use and maintenance free gas fire pit.
When looking for a gas fire pit, you want to consider three things… Quality of construction, ease of use, and appearance.
Under review is the Bond Canyon Ridge Stone Fire Table. Every Bond Canyon Ridge Fire Table includes…
A stainless steel 15,000 BTU fire ring
A stainless steel fire bowl
Scratch resistant resin composite construction
A propane regulator for easy temperature control
Manual ignition
We found this fire table online at Amazon for $299; do your research as the price for this fire table varies depending on where you buy it (high end we found was $700).
The shipping was included in the purchase price, and it arrived within six days. Assembly was a snap, since this fire table comes already assembled; you merely have to hook up the propane tank, start a match, and you’re ready to go.
The Bond Canyon Ridge Fire Table Stone – Looks Nice In Pictures But…
When we received this Canyon Ridge Fire Table, we were very disappointed with the product.
The marketing pictures show a very attractive fire table with the look and feel of textured stone. Upon unpacking this model, the reality is a far cry from the advertising photos.
This gas fire pit is constructed of a resin composite attached to a stainless steel frame; the stainless steel frame is cheaply made and not very strong, which makes this a very unstable fire table from the foundation up.
The resin composite is very poorly crafted as well.
Upon arrival, the finish was already flaking off the top of the fire table. You could see where the finish had been patched on the top of the fire table, as the finish of the patches was uneven and didn’t match the rest of the tabletop.
And the finish on the base of the model was unevenly applied as well; there were two spots on the base of this fire table where the actual fiberglass was showing through.
Plus, the packaging for shipping of this gas fire pit was shoddy as well. One corner of the table top was crushed in shipping, and the access door for the propane installation/replacement was broken as well.
The Bond Canyon Ridge Fire Table Stone – One Other Major Issue
Here is another thing that is completely off base with the Bond Canyon Ridge Fire Table.
All of the advertising on Amazon for this gas fire pit described it as a 15,000 BTU propane fueled gas fire pit that ran off the 1 pound disposable propane tanks that are easily available at WalMart or Target.
Upon arrival, we discovered that this was a 30,000 BTU model that required the 20 pound propane tank to operate.
So instead of getting a couple of the 1 pound propane tanks for about five bucks, to use this Bond Canyon Ridge Fire Table, you would have to go out and drop another $35 on a filled 20 pound tank.
This completely defeats the purpose of people looking for a 15,000 BTU fire table that uses the 1 pound tanks as a fuel source.
The Bond Canyon Ridge Fire Table Stone – Don’t Waste Your Time
For $300, you can find a really attractive, functional, and easy to use gas fire pit that does not have any problems like this Bond Canyon Ridge “Stone” Fire Table.
With a weak underlying frame, shoddy craftsmanship of the composite resin exterior, shipping issues…. Save yourself some time and don’t even bother considering this gas firepit for your home.
You’ll just wind up returning it before even using it for the first time like we did.
NOTE: Although this fire bowl looks amazing in photos, (based on our negative experiences) we simply recommend this fire table to our loyal readers. Instead, we highly recommend theBlue Rhino GAD860SPas the far-superior alternative.
If you would still like to read our review of the Uniflame GAD1001B, it is written below.
Everyone loves sitting around a campfire on a clear summer night; but why should you have to head out to the country to go camping when you can enjoy a safe and open flame in your very own backyard with a custom fire pit?
And rather than deal with the mess and hassles of a wood burning fire pit, a gas fire pit is the choice for a maintenance free and easy to use backyard campfire whenever you’d like.
Under review is the Uniflame GAD1001B LP Gas Outdoor Firebowl with Tile Mantel. Every Uniflame gas firebowl includes…
A 30,000 BTU cast iron burner
An easy to access control panel
Electronic ignition
A handcrafted tile mantel
A porcelain coated steel fire bowl
Lave rocks
One year manufacturer’s warranty
We found the Uniflame GAD1001B Gas Outdoor Firebowl online at Amazon for just under $300; and the shipping was included in the purchase price.
It shipped quickly, and we received this gas outdoor firebowl in three days; but ever since we got it, we have had nothing but problems with this unit.
Uniflame GAD1001B LP Gas Outdoor Firebowl – Assembly Nightmare
We unpacked this gas firebowl and our problems began from the very start. The assembly instructions were less than crystalline (a lot of intuition on the part of the assembler required), and there were more parts requiring assembly than the space shuttle.
Once organized for assembly, we discovered that we were missing some the “included” nuts and bolts required; specifically, the bolts that attach the firebowl to the unit.
We were also missing some of the “included” caulking between the base and the firebowl as well.
Rather than wait around to have the missing parts replaced, we made a run to the local hardware store and spent another $7 on parts that should have been included with this model.
Uniflame GAD1001B LP Gas Outdoor Firebowl – Once Assembled…
After a two hour assembly process, we were ready to turn on the flame. We hit the electronic ignition the first time… No luck. Three more times with same result.
Since this was a labor intensive installation, we carefully went over our assembly process, thinking that we had gotten something wrong.
After an intensive review of the assembly which showed that we had indeed put this firebowl together correctly, we decided to go to the source for help with this firebowl.
We called Uniflame and explained our problem. They stated that we may have received a faulty regulator; so we were sent a new one that took five days to arrive.
We then installed the new regulator and still were unable to light the firebowl. Another call and a further ten minutes were spent on the phone with Uniflame, and we were informed that we now needed a new gas valve for the unit.
Another six days, and the gas valve arrived. We replaced the gas valve in the unit, and still were unable to get this Uniflame GAD1001B Gas Outdoor Firebowl to ignite.
Losing patience (and almost two weeks to get this fire bowl started for the first time), we called Uniflame one last time.
This time we were told that there was nothing more they could do as they had exhausted all of their options; and we were instructed to go thru Amazon to get a refund.
So, after around $310 and over two weeks of screwing around with this fire bowl, we wound up sending it back for a refund.
Save yourself the time and frustration we experienced with this gas fire pit.
For the same price, there are a multitude of high quality outdoor gas fire pits that are easy to assemble and work the first time, every time.
Do not waste your time with this Uniflame GAD1001B Gas Outdoor Firebowl when there are other alternatives for the same price that actually work…
If you are looking for an eco-friendly and hassle free alternative to a backyard wood burning fire pit, then a gas fire pit may be the way to go.
Propane is clean burning, it is hassle free, you do not have to worry about cutting wood or stocking it, and clean up is easy compared to messing with the ash and soot residue left by a wood burning fire pit.
Under review is the Mendocino Black Steel Gas Fire Pit. This is an easy to operate smaller gas fire pit that comes complete with…
A stainless steel bowl
Easy temperature control
20,000 BTUs of heat
Lava rocks
Decorative ceramic logs
This model shipped extremely quickly, and we received it within three days.
Assembly couldn’t be any easier… Since there was none.
It came strongly packaged in a single box, and was ready to use once unpacked. You simply screwed in the 1 pound tank of propane, turned on the gas flow, and lit it.
Be aware that when ordering this Mendocino black steel fire pit from Amazon, you will have to purchase the propane tanks separately; none come shipped with the unit.
However, I found a 2 pack of these 1 lb off brand propane tanks at WalMart for around $5.
The Mendocino Steel Fire Pit Has Great Heat
This is a 20,000 BTU gas fire pit; while not as powerful as some of the other 40,000 BTU or 60,000 BTU gas firepits that run off the larger propane tank, this model throws off heat you can feel up to ten feet away… Surprising since it uses the smaller 1 pound propane tanks.
The Mendocino gas fire pit is ruggedly constructed out of high gauge, heavy duty steel with a distinctive scroll pattern etched into the steel of each of the legs. And the fire ring is crafted out of stainless steel, so it is both light weight and corrosion resistant as well.
It hides the 1 pound propane tank in the base of the fire pit; and while it has a manual ignition (it dos not have an electronic igniter like the more expensive models), it lights very easily using a standard Bic fireplace lighter.
The flame height is adjustable for easy temperature control, and if you have ever used these 1 pound propane tanks for a gas grill, you are surprised how quickly they run out.
Not so with this Mendocino gas fire pit. You can expect a 1 pound tank to last between 6 to 8 hours on a low temperature setting, and 2 to 3 hours on medium.
And you are provided with generous amounts of lava rocks and ceramic logs that completely cover the fire ring; and the rocks and logs spread the flames around and give this a very realistic, wood burning look.
The Mendocino Black Steel Fire Pit – Drawbacks
This attractive and functional gas fire pit has very few drawbacks that we noticed.
We would have liked an included electronic ignition system to make this as easy to light as possible.
And with a 28 inch diameter, it is not the largest fire pit if you are entertaining in your backyard in early spring or late fall.
But it is more than enough for your three to five people; and at a mere 25 pounds, you can pick this firepit up and take it with you where ever you’d like to go.
Unlike its more expensive competitors, this is a simple, no frills gas powered fire pit that generates great heat and look great on any patio. And the 1 pound propane tanks last a long time, are easy to use and replace, and safe to store and transport.
For the price, this is a great value for an eco-friendly and easy to clean backyard fire pit that brings a warm and comforting campfire right onto your patio.
A backyard firepit can make a pleasant summer evening or a night in late fall a great gathering place for friends and family. But who wants to hassle with firewood, ashes and soot?
We found a gas firepit to be an easy solution to this problem.. Under review is the Camp Chef FP29LG 30-Inch Del Rio Copper Gas Firepit.
With a Camp Chef FP29LG Copper Firepit you get…
All the warmth and romance of an outdoor fire without the headaches of a wood fire pit
A very portable fire pit that you can take with you to the park, the cabin, or use your very own backyard
A powerful 60,000-BTU gas ring, cover, and included lava rocks.
A compact size that is 30 inches in diameter and 11 inches tall
We found the Camp Chef FP29LG on Amazon for $224; and shipping was included in the purchase price.
It arrived in three days, was packaged well, and assembly was a breeze.
You literally unpack the firepit, insert the copper bowl into the black steel holder, connect the gas hose between the firepit and the propane tank, arrange the lava rocks how you’d like on the interior, and it is ready to go for hours.
The Camp Chef FP29LG Copper Fire Pit Works Great
This is a beautiful addition to your backyard; and it is even portable enough to take with you to the beach, when camping, or to throw into the back of your RV for instant fire wherever you go.
The copper bowl is not made of actual copper; it is steel with a nice looking copper colored finish (which is actually better for a firepit in the first place).
And the flat black steel frame that holds the copper bowl is sturdy and solid. The lava rocks that come included with the firepit makes for a great, high flame; and the 60,000 BTU cast iron gas ring pumps out plenty of heat from this unit.
Unlike other firepits we looked at, this is a more compact pit that does not take over your entire patio or deck. It has a 30 inch diameter which makes it big enough to enjoy, but also leaves enough room to assemble your patio furniture around it.
And at 65 pounds, it is easy enough to move around the patio by yourself; or throw into the trunk to take with you.
The Camp Chef FP29LG Copper Fire Pit Has A Few Issues
While easy to use, very portable, and a great heat producer, there were a few things you should be aware of when looking at this model online.
The pictures of the Camp Chef FP29LG copper firepit show it with a bunch of ceramic logs included. This is not accurate.
Apparently, there were some issues with the ceramic logs provided with the earlier models of the Camp Chef copper firepit; and they no longer include these with your purchase.
You only receive the lava rocks with this copper firepit; if the ceramic logs are important to you, then you will have to purchase those separately online (anywhere from and additional $50 to $70). Personally, we prefer the lava rocks as they create a higher flame.
The Camp Chef FP29LG comes with an included 5 foot propane hose; but we wanted a little longer hose to separate the tank from the fire pit.
WARNING: Do not get the one that is recommended by Amazon, as it doesn’t fit. The couplings are the wrong size for the hose Amazon recommends; if you want a longer hose, insure that it has the 3/8” thread on both ends; male on one end, and female on the other.
Strange, since Amazon is usually spot on; but in this case, they recommend the wrong complementary product.
The Camp Chef FP29LG Copper Fire Pit – A Great Value for the Money
For the price, this is a great firepit.
It looks good in your backyard, it is portable enough to take with you anywhere, and throws off good heat. And the included skewers for roasting hot dogs or marshmallows were an unexpected bonus as well…
But, since I am the owner of a site that tests, reviews and rates fire pits, you probably already knew that.
It is probably my “backwoods” upbringing that has spawned my love of open fires, as they remind me of my days and nights of keeping warm by a camp fire or having a bonfire in the backyard for social gatherings.
Now that I live in the city, a fire pit is the closest thing I have to an open fire. So, I have tried them all. Natural gas fire pits, wood fire pits, propane fire pits… you name it, I’ve tried it.
There are some pros and cons to each of these, but after weighing the pros and cons of each type of unit, gas fire pits are the clear winner… and I will explain why I feel this way in this article.
