A backyard firepit can make a pleasant summer evening or a night in late fall a great gathering place for friends and family. But who wants to hassle with firewood, ashes and soot?

We found a gas firepit to be an easy solution to this problem.. Under review is the Camp Chef FP29LG 30-Inch Del Rio Copper Gas Firepit.

With a Camp Chef FP29LG Copper Firepit you get…

  • All the warmth and romance of an outdoor fire without the headaches of a wood fire pit
  • A very portable fire pit that you can take with you to the park, the cabin, or use your very own backyard
  • A powerful 60,000-BTU gas ring, cover, and included lava rocks.
  • A compact size that is 30 inches in diameter and 11 inches tall

We found the Camp Chef FP29LG on Amazon for $224; and shipping was included in the purchase price.

It arrived in three days, was packaged well, and assembly was a breeze.

You literally unpack the firepit, insert the copper bowl into the black steel holder, connect the gas hose between the firepit and the propane tank, arrange the lava rocks how you’d like on the interior, and it is ready to go for hours.

The Camp Chef FP29LG Copper Fire Pit Works Great

This is a beautiful addition to your backyard; and it is even portable enough to take with you to the beach, when camping, or to throw into the back of your RV for instant fire wherever you go.

The copper bowl is not made of actual copper; it is steel with a nice looking copper colored finish (which is actually better for a firepit in the first place).

And the flat black steel frame that holds the copper bowl is sturdy and solid. The lava rocks that come included with the firepit makes for a great, high flame; and the 60,000 BTU cast iron gas ring pumps out plenty of heat from this unit.

Unlike other firepits we looked at, this is a more compact pit that does not take over your entire patio or deck. It has a 30 inch diameter which makes it big enough to enjoy, but also leaves enough room to assemble your patio furniture around it.

And at 65 pounds, it is easy enough to move around the patio by yourself; or throw into the trunk to take with you.

The Camp Chef FP29LG Copper Fire Pit Has A Few Issues

While easy to use, very portable, and a great heat producer, there were a few things you should be aware of when looking at this model online.

The pictures of the Camp Chef FP29LG copper firepit show it with a bunch of ceramic logs included. This is not accurate.

Apparently, there were some issues with the ceramic logs provided with the earlier models of the Camp Chef copper firepit; and they no longer include these with your purchase.

You only receive the lava rocks with this copper firepit; if the ceramic logs are important to you, then you will have to purchase those separately online (anywhere from and additional $50 to $70). Personally, we prefer the lava rocks as they create a higher flame.

The Camp Chef FP29LG comes with an included 5 foot propane hose; but we wanted a little longer hose to separate the tank from the fire pit.

WARNING:  Do not get the one that is recommended by Amazon, as it doesn’t fit. The couplings are the wrong size for the hose Amazon recommends; if you want a longer hose, insure that it has the 3/8” thread on both ends; male on one end, and female on the other.

Strange, since Amazon is usually spot on; but in this case, they recommend the wrong complementary product.

The Camp Chef FP29LG Copper Fire Pit – A Great Value for the Money

For the price, this is a great firepit.

It looks good in your backyard, it is portable enough to take with you anywhere, and throws off good heat. And the included skewers for roasting hot dogs or marshmallows were an unexpected bonus as well…
